ABOUT THE AUDITION
We need a cast of actors ages sixteen through adult of a variety of genders and backgrounds. Anyone who wants to help with the production in any capacity should attend auditions.
ABOUT THE PLAY
Bram Stoker’s original language paints the decidedly devilish Dracula thus: “I want your fear. For your fear, like a current, rushes through your body. Your fear makes your heart pound, it renders your veins rich and full. Your fear hemorrhages deliciously within you.”
This new adaptation by Autumn Lowry and Brad McKenzie restores the suspense and seduction of Bram Stoker’s classic novel to the stage. As Count Dracula begins to exert his will upon the residents of London, they try to piece together the clues of his appearances—in a valiant attempt to save themselves from a hideous fate. Rich with both humor and horror, this play paints a wickedly theatrical picture of Stoker’s famous vampire.
ROLES
ACT seeks a cast of actors aged sixteen and older of any and all ethnicities. The available roles are as follows:
Jonathan Harker Young solicitor (25-38) who is engaged to Mina Murray and is overseeing the transfer of real estate to Dracula.
Mina Murray Harker Young school mistress (25-38) who is engaged to Jonathan; instrumental in tracking down Dracula; becomes one of his victims/survivor.
Quinn (Harker) Young man (18-24); narrator, studious, military.
Lucy Westenra Young woman (25-38) and Mina’s best friend; sleepwalks and becomes Dracula’s first victim.
Mrs. WestenraLucy’s mother and caretaker (55+).
Arthur Holmwood Young man (25-38) engaged to Lucy; inherited his father’s title and estate; one of the three suitors and “band of brothers.”
Dr. John SewardYoung man (25-38) who was a suitor of Lucy; director of sanitarium where Renfield resides; part of the “band of brothers.”
Quincey Morris Young man (25-38) who was a suitor of Lucy and is a Texan; his wealth helps fund the hunt for Dracula; part of the “band of brothers.”
Dr. Abraham Van Helsing Older man (fatherly, 55-65) from Amsterdam; he is instrumental in catching Dracula.
R. M. Renfield Man of any age, lumbering, sickly, insane man.
Mr. Swales Older man (55-99) who is grandfatherly to Mina and Lucy and foreshadows the arrival of Dracula.
Three Sisters/Merchants/Nun Young (20-40) women who will play vampire sisters, nuns, and merchants.
