Summer Camps Keep Kids Engaged

Each summer, Athens Area Council for the Arts (AACA) and McMinn County Education Foundation (MCEF) have awarded over thousands in need-based scholarships to arts camps, making sure everyone has access to fine arts education, regardless of ability to pay. We’re proud to provide free and reduced tuition for hundreds of students each summer.

Greatest Camp in the Galaxy!

Kids Arts Camp 2024 explored all things SPACE, with singing, dancing, visual arts projects, and more. This year, we welcomed 109 campers from grades K-6.

We were proud to award $2200 in scholarships for Kids Arts Camps this year. We made sure that every student who wanted to rock-n-roll this summer was able to join in the fun!

Learning the Ropes

We welcomed 29 campers to Jr. Musical Theatre Camp where they picked up the basics of theatre while learning lines and staging for Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka KIDS.

With $2000 in scholarships awarded, everyone had smiles! Campers delighted us with the hilarious and heartwarming 30-minute show.

WAIT!

Youth Theatre Camp welcomed 22 students ages 11 - 17. They worked hard during two weeks of acting, stage combat, music, and movement classes. Then premiered a new, original musicalWait!—at the end of camp.

We were proud to award over $1625 in scholarships for Youth Theatre Camp this year. Many of the staff at The Arts Center made life-long friends at theatre camp, so we want everyone to be able to experience this life-changing camp.

For those with a vision

Visual Arts Mini Camp is for young artists to get hands on experience with a variety of media, taught by professional artists and educators.

Students work on a new project each day. This year, grades K - 5 worked with Holly Doucette, while grades 6 - 12 worked with Nancy Kyzer.

This year, 30 campers exhibited finished work in AACA’s professional gallery during the last 30 minutes of their camp week.

2024 AACA arts camp scholarships are made possible thanks to generous funding  from the Kiwanis Club of Athens, Marian Biddle Trew Scholarship Fund, as well as donations from members of our community including a lead gift by Brenda Mitchell.
