ABOUT THE EXHIBIT

Participating artists will present their own unique interpretations of the theme "Slice of Life." What is a "slice of life?" Each piece will depict a moment in time captured on canvas or other surface. Visitors may find an entire story in a painting, or simply a snippet of a story told visually. The exhibit will encompass impressionistic landscapes, exquisite florals and still life paintings, fanciful abstracts and more.

Members of the Civic Arts League of Chattanooga, Inc. represent a wide variety of creative styles from realistic and impressionistic paintings in oils, acrylics, pastels, colored pencil, and watercolors to more abstract multi-media pieces, fabric art creations, assemblages, and one-of-a-kind-jewelry. The organization currently has close to 50 members, about 20 to 25 of whom are able to regularly attend monthly meetings. Currently, the group meets on the first Monday of each month at 6 p.m. at Grace Episcopal Church, located at the corner of Brainerd Road and Belvoir Avenue in Chattanooga. Anyone with an interest in art is welcome to attend!

The Civic Arts League was founded by a group of artist friends in 1963, in order to provide a place for local artists to gather, enjoy fellowship, paint together, learn from each other and from established artists and guest speakers. Members come from all around the Greater Chattanooga/North Georgia area.

The organization has gone through many metamorphoses over the decades, but its continuing mission has always been to foster friendships and to support this area's local artists, encouraging both beginning and experienced artists to create, to grow, and exhibit their work.
