Judge Jerry Hagaman

Jerry L. Hagaman is an East Tennessee native. He received his B.F.A. (Bachelor of Fine Arts) in sculpture and printmaking from East Tennessee State University in 1979 and his M.F.A. (Master of Fine Arts) from the University of Kansas in 1983.

He resided in Lafayette, IN, for 11 years where he worked as an artisan/craftsman and pursued his own studio production. Hagaman has taught sculpture at the University of Kansas and foundations drawing at Purdue University.

He is currently the owner of Athens Art and Frame in Athens, TN, and an instructor of 2-Dimensional and 3-Dimensional Design at Tennessee Wesleyan University in Athens.

"I'm always looking for enigmatic images and configurations," Hagaman said. "These configurations are meant to offer some insight into my take on the world, experiences, responses, and desires. Selection of imagery, layering of content and information, and a tendency toward anti-pretty are meant to challenge the viewer's (and my) set of expectations. My methods change according to the materials at hand, my circumstances, and the process of the day. At the center of all my work is an investigation of the interplay between materials and imagery/ imagery and content/ content and information/ information and communication."
