About KSO
The mission of the KSO is to develop and sustain a symphony orchestra of the highest artistic standards and to reach East Tennessee audiences of all ages by providing excellence in musical performance and education programs.
“Every important occasion in life must have music,” said the founder and first conductor of the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra (KSO), Bertha Walburn Clark. Formally established in 1935, the KSO is the oldest continually performing symphony orchestra in the Southeast. Now almost 90 years later, the KSO consists of 80 professional musicians, and performs 300 programs throughout the region each season, reaching audiences of more than 200,000 people.
