ABOUT THE EXHIBIT
"Gospel Quilts II" is a quilt concert dedicated to the memory of the artist’s mother, Betty Loretta Milton (1936-2024), who taught Malone to sew when she was very young. Stitching art quilts and tapestries is a contemplative and prayerful process. Fabric collage, repetitive running stitch, kantha style quilting, embroidery, and journaling text, scripture, music and poetry, all speak of the sacred found in every day. The works are formed by hand through layering vintage and new fabrics, recycled clothing and linens, ephemera and collected nature. This artistic expression celebrates the gift of faith and has enriched the artist’s life.
