RECEPTION for Roots, Rocks and Rivers

By Bill Long

EXHIBIT DATES
January 9 - March 7, 2026

ABOUT THE EXHIBIT

Painting is where I find my greatest joy. My main focus is to develop my own style, which is motivated by a deep connection to nature and the emotional effects of light on my subject matter. This recent work is the result of nearly a year of experimentation and growth as an artist. Having worked in both abstract and realistic styles, I have been moving toward a more contemporary approach that melds the two.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Bill Long is a military veteran who graduated from UTK with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1974. Throughout his life he has been a practicing artist and an avid music fan, while raising his two sons.

Since Bill’s retirement as owner of a custom sign business in his hometown, he has dedicated his time to exploring the more creative aspects of artistic expression. Inspired by his frequent travels into the depths of Appalachia he has created dozens of creative interpretations of the many pristine, beautiful mountain creeks he has encountered along the way. These works are the culmination of his prolific work in natural realism.
