ABOUT THE AUDITION
We need a cast of 6 - 8 singers of any age (18 +), gender, or background. There is also a narrator, which will be one or more of the singers. Preference in casting will be given to individuals with musical theater and acting experience.
Please prepare TWO songs: 1. by Sondheim (options below), 2. a non-Sondheim song of your choice.
Please bring sheet music for your non-Sondheim song choice to auditions for the accompanist.
Everyone auditioning for narrator will be asked to do a cold reading.
If you want to help with the production in any capacity please attend auditions, but you do not have to fill out an audition form in order to help off stage.
Although we prefer that you fill out the audition form online and ahead of time, you are welcome to do so during office hours: Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, 10 AM - 5 PM. You can also fill out an audition form at auditions. However, those who have filled out the form ahead of time will be called first. If you have any questions or concerns about the audition form, we are happy to help you at The Arts Center or call 423-745-8781.
SONDHEIM SONG OPTIONS
We want to set you up for success! As you may already know, Sondheim’s music can be challenging to sightread even for the best of pianists, so you can be confident that the selections below will be prepared by the accompanist so your performance will be presented at its best.
Please note: Those cast in the performance may or may not sing the Sondheim piece from their audition in the show.
Our accompanist will use “The Stephen Sondheim Collection: 52 Songs from 17 Shows and Films,” IBSN-13 978-1617804298 for auditions. If you don’t have a copy or can’t afford one, a copy of the songbook is available at reception at The Arts Center for brief review during office hours and at auditions. If you have any other questions about the song selections, please email the director.

ABOUT THE SHOW
A group of singers perform selected songs from 15 musicals with both music and lyrics written by Stephen Sondheim. There will be explanatory narration between songs.
The Stephen Sondheim Society notes that Sondheim was "widely acknowledged as the most innovative, most influential, and most important composer and lyricist in modern Broadway history. For more than 50 years, he has set an unsurpassed standard of brilliance and artistic integrity in musical theatre. His accolades include an Academy Award, eight Tony Awards (more than any other composer) including the Special Tony Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Theatre, multiple Grammy Awards, multiple Drama Desk awards and a Pulitzer Prize."
