About Arts on the Side
This free gathering starts with participation in our Community “Piece” Project in the Willson Exhibit Room at 5:00 PM, and includes a catered dinner by ARAMARK in the Sue E. Trotter Black Box Theater starting at 5:30 PM, followed by a pet memorialization demonstration by Annie LaVoie starting at 6:00 PM in the Peggy Dow Performing Arts Center, then ends with a Table Read of “Les Misérables” at 7:00 PM, in the Visual Arts Studio.
ABOUT OUR ARTIST DEMONSTRATOR
Annie LaVoie is a Chattanooga-based artist whose work centers on transformation, resilience, and healing. Through her practice, Mouthy Odditie, Annie works with bone carving, stone, and mixed media sculpture, incorporating metals like copper, silver, and brass. Using recycled and sustainable materials, her work transforms natural elements into powerful symbols of personal story.
During LaVoie’s demonstration, patrons will have the opportunity to observe multiple taxidermy and preservation methods, offering an educational look at the ethical processes used in professional pet preservation. Demonstration will showcase how bones are carefully cleaned, preserved, and prepared, helping dispel common misconceptions while illustrating that ethical bone preservation is both respectful and achievable. Arts on the Side started as a FREE arts program in 2016 during the lunch hour on select Tuesdays. Back then, the programs were short and patrons had to bring their own lunch. We’re pleased to bring it back—better than ever—with a catered meal and arts activities meant to encourage fellowship and shared creativity. The program is still FREE and activities may include concerts, jam sessions, visual arts activities, art demonstrations, table reads, and more.
The Arts Center invites everyone to come enjoy dinner, tour our facility, learn about our programs, and enjoy this free arts program.
