One simple qualification: participation!

Eligibility

At large memberany individual fourteen (14) years of age or older who has participated in one production of ACT (on stage as a performer, or behind the scenes in roles such as stage manager, light technician, choreographer); parents of minor participants are also eligible; one AACA board member may be appointed if board of directors not represented in body; members must attend meetings and participate in programming to remain in good standing.

How do I join?

ACT members must renew membership annually. Membership is not automatic*, participants must complete a survey to confirm membership registration each year.

*Active members with 15 years of service or more are legacy members and not required to renew membership annually.

What do members do?

  1. Attend and engage in meetings

  2. Athens Community Theatre meets in person two times each year

  3. Fall Meeting - Strategic planning, performance showcase, ideas & fellowship

  4. Spring Meeting - Announce shows for following season, performance showcase, fellowship

  5. Contribute to conversations on vision, purpose, and procedures for ACT

  6. Submit show titles for consideration for future seasons

  7. Volunteer with AACA and ACT

  8. Support ACT productions through attendance, volunteer service, word-of-mouth promotion and donation of goods, time, and funds as appropriate

  9. Recruit performers, volunteers, audience members

Our Purpose

Resident amateur theatre group of Athens Area Council for the Arts that supports AACA’s mission by producing at least three productions annually. A season generally includes at least: a children’s musical, an adult play, a multigenerational musical/play, a one-weekend only play.

Our Mission

Athens Community Theatre uses the transformative, inspiring, collaborative elements of theatre to create a dynamic artistic space for our community – a place where audience members from diverse backgrounds see their stories depicted onstage and a place where theatre artists feel safe acting as storytellers.

What do members NOT do?

  1. Membership does not guarantee a role in ACT performances

  2. everyone must audition

  3. roles are assigned based on merit

  4. directorial team’s casting process are individual to each show, ACT as a group has no influence on casting

  5. Raise money (sponsorship recruitment, fundraising, and budget planning and administration is handled through Athens Area Council for the Arts (AACA))

  6. Determine the Athens Community Theatre season

  7. season planning is at the discretion of AACA Executive Director

  8. input comes from committees such as ACT Play Selection Committee

  9. Make policies related to ticketing, seating, or any administrative concerns

  10. Receive payment for services rendered (in some special circumstances guest artists will receive honorariums)

We do as that you RSVP by Thursday May 4. (More info on how to do that below)

This is the first in-person meeting of the Athens Community Theatre membership since 2019! We’ve had significant growth in participation this year and hope to add several new members to our roster.

In addition to welcoming new members, we’ll review our ACT mission and guidelines and our process. The value of this meeting comes from your presence, so please plan to attend.
