Dinner Theater - One Flew Over the CuckooDinner Theater - One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest - September 9, 2010, at 7:30pm
Athens Community Theater

Athens Community Theater's first production of the 2010-2011 season is One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest by Dale Wasserman, based on the novel by Ken Kesey.  Show dates are September 9-18 in the Sue E. Trotter Theater at The Arts Center in downtown Athens, Tennessee .  The production is sponsored by Seventy-Two Wine & Spirits located at Exit 72 on I-75.

The play is presented in honor of the 35th anniversary of the movie version starring Jack Nicholson, which garnered more Academy Awards than any movie in history to that point.  One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest follows the untamed R. P. McMurphy, who upon his commitment to a mental institution, attempts to buck the iron-fisted rule of Nurse Ratched and show the demoralized men of the ward that sometimes being crazy keeps you sane.  As powerful and thought-provoking today as when the play first opened in 1963, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest is a story about freedom, conquering fear, and the strength of the human spirit.

The cast features Brad Jewell as McMurphy and Amanda Haun as Nurse Ratched.  Other cast members are Dave Siklosi, Logan Reed, Art Kimball, Jason Carusillo, G. David Brown , Jeff Wilkins, Steve Walker, Mary Kennedy, Lindsey Nunley, Shane Jackson, Traci McKenzie, Ashley Sullivan, and Matthew Cox.  One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest is directed by Melonie Carideo and Ellen Kimball.

The opening night dinner theater on September 9th features a seated dinner and cash bar.  Doors open at 6:00 PM, dinner at 6:30, and showtime is 7:30 PM by reservation only.  Dinner/show tickets are $25 per person.  All other shows are $12 for adults and $8 for students.  Other evening performances beginning at 7:30 PM are on September 10,11,16,17, and 18 with one 2:00 PM matinee on September 12th.  Tickets are available on line at www.athensartscouncil.org, by phone at (423)745-8781, or at The Arts Center ,320 North White Street, Athens.  Group rates for 10 or more people are available by calling The Arts Center. THE BLACK BOX CONCERT SERIES

You've never heard it played like this before. Like all genuine originals, he is hard to categorize, but there is no mistaking that Adrian Legg is a guitar wizard. Voted Acoustic Guitarist of the Decade by England's Guitarist magazine, he displays "dazzling technique with large dollops of spirit, humor, passion, eclecticism, and spontaneity". So fast, so deft, his finger picking guitar style is melodious, and yet so layered with riffs, parts and harmonies as to sound like an orchestra. A true guitar hero. www.adrianlegg.com - Purchase Tickets

The NerdThe Nerd - April 14, 2011, at 7:30pm
Athens Community Theater

Aspiring young architect Willum Cubbert has often told his friends about the debt he owes to Rick Steadman, a fellow ex-GI whom he has never met but who saved his life in Vietnam. He has written to Rick saying, as long as he is alive, "you will have somebody on Earth who will do anything for you" - so Willum is delighted when Rick shows up unexpectedly. Delight soon fades, however, as it becomes apparent that Rick is a hopeless "nerd" - a bumbling oaf with no social sense, little intelligence and less tack - and he WON'T LEAVE -
